Essa é uma tarefa difÃcil nos dias atuais, os fabricantes são empresas de renome internacional com uma historia testada e aprovada pelos consumidores, em varias áreas. As diferenças entre os hard disk esta na tecnologia aplicada na sua programação de funcionamento e na estratégia mercadológica adotada pelo fabricante para suas linhas de produto, e o que podemos fazer é pesquisar o mercado nos informando sobre critérios que acompanham os hard disk, para nos orientarmos em nossa escolha. Não devemos nos esquecer que teremos uma árdua tarefa, pois vamos confrontar fatos interessantes, como por exemplo, opinião pessoal de pessoas as quais temos ligações e muitas vezes essa opinião terá como base de sustentação a experiência pessoal, mas para se atestar fatos o que se deve fazer é pesquisar e levar em conta dados estatÃsticos comprobatórios e esses dados requerem números e histórico. Critérios com base em performance e capacidade: Capacidade, o tamanho do disco e importante e deve ser levado em consideração uma vez que nós precisaremos de um disco com capacidade suficiente para atender as exigências de nosso sistema operacional e nosso sistema de trabalho e também com capacidade de armazenamento de nossos arquivos gerados ainda que temporariamente. Velocidade do disco, aqui reside hoje uma diferença entre discos que não havia anteriormente, hoje temos discos de 5400 rpm, 7200 10000 e ate 15000 e em alguns casos 4.400 (hard disk para notebook). Quanto maior for esta velocidade maior será a taxa de transferência dos dados entre o disco e qualquer outro periférico a esse fato chamamos de velocidade de I/O (input - output). Velocidade de busca (seek time), esta especificação nos da uma referencia de qual o tempo que a cabeça magnética do disco leva para entrar em trabalho seja em inicio de funcionamento seja em retomada do mesmo, quanto menor for este numero mais rápido e eficiente será o disco. Densidade de Ãrea, esta especificação é muito importante, pois irá determinar a capacidade de armazenamento dos discos (platters) do seu hard disk, relação direta com o número de cabeças e nos teremos aqui alguns fatores interessantes, por exemplo, um disco de 40gb poderá ter um disco interno e uma cabeça ou dois discos interno e duas cabeças e ou dois discos internos e 4 cabeças e esta caracterÃstica influenciará diretamente na durabilidade e na performance. Media de taxa de transferência sustentada, bem aqui teremos a velocidade do disco em trabalho, não a velocidade dos discos em sua melhor analise, mas a velocidade real do em situação de estresse, este dado se mostra muito importante em discos de grande capacidade onde o usuário tem como trabalho os stream seja ele de VÃdeo ou de áudio. Obs: Os discos com base em performance e capacidade são todos do tipo ATA (AT atachment) e podem ser PATA (paralelo) SATA (serial) e SCSI, e operam em velocidades distintas e todos têm suas especificações descritas em seus manuais, as velocidades de transferência vão de 33mb/sec a 300mb/sec, mas lembramos aqui que de nada servirá um disco de performance "x" se a interface (controladora de disco rÃgido) responsável pela ligação disco-computador não conseguir fazer o disco trabalhar em sua performance máxima. Bem entendo que os critérios possam ser de desconhecimento da maioria, mas podem ser encontrados e quero também dizer que como em todo trabalho profissional esta avaliação irá requerer alguém que tenha conhecimento destes pontos. Mas acredito que qualquer pessoa seja um usuário de computador ou um profissional da área de computação poderá atestar que existe uma base técnica para a determinação do hard disk mais adequado a uma função e este é meu objetivo aqui. How to Change Folder Icon or Folder Color? If you are like any computer user, then you have plenty of folders where you keep Word documents, spreadsheets, pictures, music and an endless list of other things. Sometimes the folders are so many that they may literally cripple your productivity and you may be in a devil of a time trying to find the folder with the document you need at the moment. Plus, with so many similar-looking yellow folders it is easy to make a mistake and carelessly delete an important folder. The chaos too many folders can create can be staggering! Of course, Microsoft has thought about the way to tackle the too-many-same-looking-folders problem by allowing users to change the icon of a folder with a new one that will make the folder visually stand out of the crowd. But the way users can do this is needlessly complicated as users have to go down a long 'click-and-open road' through Windows dialogs before they can actually change the icon folder. The icons in Folder Marker are self-explanatory and include many colors, dark and light colors, many categories, and they carry letters and numbers. Of course, the default set of icons can be expanded with the unlimited number of new icons that you have downloaded from the internet, or created in the icon editor yourself. Folder Marker can assign icons to a folder from a wide array file formats, such as ICO, ICL, EXE, DLL, CPL or BMP. The folders that have been assigned new icons can be made distributable. It means a Folder Marker's icon will remain unchanged even if the folder is copied onto a removable device, such as a USB-key, moved to another computer or burned onto CD or DVD. To make a folder icon distributable, it is necessary to select the 'Make customized folder distributable' option. Besides, there is one more interesting option in the program. It allows you to apply the selected icon to all subfolders inside the folder. If for some reason you want to remove the icons that have been added using Folder Marker, you can easily do this by using the 'Roll Back All Changes' option. Select this option and the icons will return to their original standard look instantly without any problems. You can customize the Folder Marker's menu to your own needs by adding new menu items and categories and assigning icons to them. Customization takes nothing but a few clicks on the icons you'd like to add or remove, and separators you'd like to add to organize the menu. The menu customization option is great because you can add only those icons that you'll actually use on a regular basis and remove those that are useless for your everyday computational routine. Besides, customization lets you personalize the desktop in the way you want it to see and the way you will find yourself comfortable with, working with such a menu. Initially the menu customization option was added to change the LEGEND OF DEFINITIONS. For some users, for example, it is difficult to remember what a blue folder means and what makes it different from a green one. This is why they may have the menu where it's directly written that blue folders are for design projects and green ones are with the programming code. My name is Chris Diprose and I am the Manager of Web Design Melbourne firm Kanga Internet - http://www.kangainternet.com. I have been an active member of the Joomla Community for several years and have an established business based upon Joomla Development in Melbourne, Australia. My main focus is Search Engine Optimisation for Joomla Content Management System. This article focuses on the first few steps in the Web Development and Design of a decent search optimised website in Joomla. Okay lets get into it. Once I have setup the standard Joomla installation there are a few component types that are mandatory to install and I believe these to be:- a sitemap component and a SEF URL changing component. These are by far the most important components to have on any Joomla Installation. What is a SEF URL changing component and how does it relate to Web Design in Joomla? SEF stands for Search Engine Friendly and a normal installation of Joomla has a URL like this: index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5&Itemid=6 When it comes to search engines they are really smart in many ways but the normal Joomla URL describes nothing about the web page and its contents and so they really do dislike it in many ways. It is what I call, Search Optimisation Stunted (SOS). I like this term because it describes exactly what it needs; some help! This is where a SEF URL changing component comes into play. These types of components take the normal Joomla URL and change it into something more meaningful to both us and the search engines. eg: buy-blue-widgets-here.html From my Web Design & Development experience this is the single most important component installation you can make on a Joomla Website. I want to detail my personal best picks. There are a few available to us but I believe the JoomSEF component to be the best of the best when it comes to Search Engine Friendly URL's. There is only one drawback to choosing this component and that is a hidden advert in the code from the original makers. If you serach on google for "Joomsef patch" then you should be able to find a decent article on how to get around this problem. Looking at the "best of the rest" of the SEF components we find a new component (May 2007) called sh404SEF which is ad free, if you search on the Joomla extensions website you will find this one. I believe it to be strongly based on JoomSEF; in both look, feel and functionality I have noticed this. Another SEF friendly component for Joomla is OpenSEF. When OpenSEF was released about a year ago it was great but since that time there has been no updates and the project has lagged way behind Joomla development. Having said though, it still does a reasonable job of converting Joomla URL's to search engine friendly but I found in my testing that it proved to be duplicating too many URL's. Which ever one you choose, download the component and then using the Joomla Administration interface install the component. Then go to Site->Global Configuration->SEO (tab) and ensure "Search Engine Friendly URL's" is set to yes. Ensure your htaccess.txt file in the root directory of the Joomla installation is changed to .htaccess and follow the directives in the file in how to turn on "mod_rewrite" - this is straight forward. Then just go to the JoomSEF component and configuration and turn it on. Once this is done you should be generating friendly URL's on the front end interface so you should go and check. It's as easy as that!! Okay so lets move on to what I consider the next most important thing to do to your Joomla installation once the SEF component is installed and working a Sitemap. In my books there is really only one legitimate and decent sitemap component and it is called Joomap. The standard version of this component does not output a decent XML file for google so I also suggest searching on google for "joomap patch" and you should be able to find an article to lead you through editing the Joomap component also. The installation of this component is the same as before, we do it through the Joomla Administration interface. With no other config after installation we can just go straight to the component and select it. Now we just choose the menu's we want to include in our sitemap. Generally these are main menu and top menu. Now we just create a new menu item and select the component to link to it, being Joomap and the rest takes care of itself. Easy!! One other advantage of Joomap is that it allows you to hook in to Google Sitemaps. On the admin interface these is a Google Sitemap URL given. All we need to do to generate a dynamic google sitemap is to copy paste this URL into google webmaster interface and now whenever google wants to download your whole website sitemap it gets a dynamic version - which is significantly better than just hoping google will find all of your pages! With this sitemap it tells google all of your pages and where they are so it can scan them more affectively. Okay now I have covered off the first two steps in Search Engine Optimisation for the Joomla Content Management System. Weâre all aware of that moment called POP or Point of Purchase â a moment when the customer actually makes the decision to select one brand over other. Public relations is little more then common sense practiced by professionals. With a little homework on the Internet a retailer can have a good strong PR campaign in place in a week or so. Make them comfortable and they will buy? Always greet your customers with a smile: Smiles are contagious and happy customers are contagious. Itâs your job to turn a shopper into a buyer. Provide enough space. If your customers feel comfortable they will stay longer. Most of the time, less is more. Remember the 80/20 rule. You make 80% of you money on the top 20% of your items. That bottom 20% or 30% is dead weight and costing you sales and money. Good retail point of sale systems can help weed out your slow selling items and let you invest your money in items that will create a higher turnover and better cash flow. What every good sales person knows! Once a customer has made a decision to buy, try to finalize the sale as quickly a possible so they can be on their way. I wonder how many emails I send in a week's time. Probably quite a few. Between work and socializing, I would guess I send around 25. My wife tops me by far; she probably sends close to a hundred. If itâs so easy, what holds us back? In successful interactions we understand others and what theyâre saying, thinking and feeling. Knowing that workplaces are less than perfect climates, how can we find ways to work together respectfully? Being aware that most of us have gaps in our communication skills and that various personality types communicate differently puts us on warning that we need to educate ourselves in this area. If we approach our work situation with open eyes and some basic âtoolsâ we can communicate effectively with our co-workers. Hereâs how: observe, listen (no, really listen) and respond. It takes effort to put aside our own ideas, and more importantly, our judgements. We often appear to be listening when weâre really not. Davis, Paleg and Fanning, authors of The Messages Workbook call this âpseudo listeningâ. We do this for various reasons including preparing our response, wanting to be liked and not knowing how to leave without offending someone. Respectful communication means saying what you have to say directly to a person, not behind their back, and using tact and understanding. Be certain to state how you feel, not how you think they feel (use the tried and true âI messageâ). Offering solutions to the problem and readily acknowledging the truth in what they say creates a productive and healthy workplace. Many people have written about the basics of clear, assertive communication. These involve giving our full attention to the person speaking, listening for the feelings behind the words as well as the content of whatâs being said and acknowledging what youâve heard. We can acknowledge what weâve heard by paraphrasing (i.e. restating for clarification) and by giving honest feedback. Complete messages have four parts: observations, opinions, feelings and needs. When receiving messages, practice asking yourself âwhat do I notice?â, âwhatâs my opinionâ etc. Leaving out some of the parts makes the communication only a partial message. This may lead to misunderstandings. Another common pitfall we may fall into by omitting parts of messages is sending covert messages, or messages with negative subtext underlying the spoken words. Try to catch yourself before you send covert messages that imply that the receiver is doing something wrong. An example of this would be âyou work slower than a one-legged snailâ with the underlying message of âyouâre too slow at your workâ. When we include all the above parts the stated message will be congruent with our underlying feelings and opinions. The message will then align with our non-verbal communication which makes up 70-80% of our interactions (i.e. body language, intonation and eye signals). The easiest way to communicate successfully is to keep it simple to avoid the common pitfalls. Pamela Ziemann, writing in âSpeaking with Your Authentic Voiceâ has a formula for communicating successfully. She recommends truly listening without formulating your answer; pausing for 2-5 seconds to breathe; repeating the question; then responding honestly. She stresses the importance of not saying too much. Ralph Waldo Emerson said: âTo be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishmentâ. Part of trusting ourselves is listening to our intuition, or âthe power of knowing things without conscious reasoningâ (Webster). We have all experienced positive and negative intuitive or gut feelings. These body-mind messages may come as hunches, thoughts, voices, restlessness or feelings of relief. Trusting rather than stifling them gives us more information to work with. This helps us communicate more clearly and to know when, where and to whom we should speak. It allows us to be more honest with ourselves and others. Balancing our own needs with the demands of our jobs means communicating respectfully and honestly and creating psychological safety for ourselves in our work environment. When we speak and act from our core values we enrich our own lives and those of everyone we come in contact with. So go ahead, Speak Up! In 1999 I gave birth to my first child, a sweet little girl. When my daughter was 4 months old I had to return to work. I worked in an office and my employer was kind enough to allow me to bring her to work with me. It was in that office that she learned to crawl and eventually take her first wobbly steps. When she began to walk, at 9 months of age, my employer gave me two options: A) Put her in daycare B) Quit I had 2 weeks to make a decision. ........ I quit. Not only could we NOT afford the cost of daycare, but I didn't want to put her in daycare. I heard too many daycare horror stories to risk having some stranger raise my kid. I began looking for something else. I did find another job and then another and another. After a few years I had 3 children who had never seen the inside of a daycare and I was finally telecommuting for yet another new employer. Now I was still a full-time working mother of three but I worked from home. Do you think that I was finally content? I was for awhile....and then I discovered something....as a telecommuter I could only go so far with the company. After 3 years with the company I was told that since I wouldn't come to work in the office full-time I had pretty much reached my cap. My career with the company had flat-lined. Inevitably she would want to stop for an after school treat and, inevitably, I would tell her "Not today honey. Mommy has to get back to work". So you are new to doing business on the internet or have tried for many months or years to make money time and time again. Creating and XML-based Sitemap and FTP'ing this XML Sitemap to the lowest directory on your website does alert the Google spider robot to review your website. It is an effective way to get more of your web pages indexed for your website. It is also effective, when you add new pages/content to your website, to: 1) regenerate a new XML Sitemap file, FTP it to your website 2) alert Google Site Maps to look at your site AGAIN NOW. And now XML Sitemaps have just become even more important! Google, Yahoo and MSN have announced that by January 2007, they will also standardize on the use of one common XML Sitemap file to index your website! All three mega search engines will now use the same XML Sitemap file to index your website. So what are the steps in creating and getting the Google XML Sitemap file to your website directory? These 4 Steps will get your XML sitemap file created and registered with Google: (1) use a software tool to create the sitemap in Google's designated XML format. You can create a Google Sitemap for FREE (maximum 750 pages per website) at Sitemap Generator. Be patient with this FREE XML Sitemap file generator. It sometimes reports URL breaks (likely timeouts) when there are none. I found using it off peak hours (late at nite) generates cleaner files. Under the Webmaster Tools Dashboard you will see a check mark for each of your sites that have been verified. (4) Submit XML file â once Verification is confirmed by Google Webmaster Tools click on the appropriate listing under the Sitemap heading. Highlight the box next to sitemap.xml and then click on Resubmit Selected button. Your sitemap.xml file will now be submitted to Google for indexing. From this point forward, whenever you change/add/delete links or add/delete pages on your website you will repeat steps 1, 2 and 4 so that the Google, Yahoo and MSN bots can re-index your website. While you're at it, create a specific HTML Sitemap Page on your website to be used by other search engines and directories. This will help their BOTS and Web Crawlers migrate through your website. Who would have thought that there would come a day when my mother and me would meet as two strong, healthy, and brilliant women; delighting in each otherâs company and challenging and supporting each other in the quest to make our individual and collective dreams come true? Certainly not me. There was a time (not so long ago) that I was in the throes of a life threatening eating disorder- a time when the chasm between mother and daughter seemed insurmountable. She wanted desperately to help but didnât know how. I needed help but didnât have a clue about how to ask for it. Fast-forward fifteen years to the present. Today I am a successful psychotherapist who empowers women who feel stuck to rid themselves of the chains that bind them into self-destructive behavior patterns- mostly in the form of eating disorders. At the age of 36, I am in awe of the life I have now and am blown away by how far Iâve come on my journey to health and well being. Free of an eating disorder which once consumed me for many of my young years, the hell that used to be my life way back when, seems now like a distant memory. Now I help others who are where I used to beâ¦I never in my wildest dreams would have imagined the life I have now back then⦠Itâs a sunny, muggy Ontario spring morning as I step into the airporter bus from my motherâs driveway, choking back tears. We have both come so far and enjoy celebrating our successes as women. It seems fitting to me that I have just spent such a pleasant and healing time with my mother directly after attending a conference in Toronto put on by NEDIC (National Eating Disorder Information Centre). The conference title was, âShades of Grey: Body Image and Self-Esteemâ and was the first of its kind in Canada. While the topic of disordered eating is vast, I will limit myself to one facet for the purposes of this article. I plan on elaborating on many others in future so stay tuned... One issue that always pops up in my therapy work with clients experiencing disordered eating is how the media makes them feel bad about themselves by projecting an ideal beauty standard that is impossible for us to attain. To help women increase feelings of self-worth, I encourage clients to become âmedia savvyâ, so that they can become critical of the messages they are being sent which are aimed to sell products, not to help women feel good about themselves. On this note, I will highlight one of the keynote presentations from the NEDIC conference entitled, âRe-shaping Reality: Media Impact on Body Image and Self-Esteemâ by Shari Graydon. Shari was the President of Mediawatch for many years; an invaluable resource which empowers Canadian citizens to speak up and out against harmful advertising. Media messages donât cause eating disorders (or weâd all be suffering), but they fuel insecurities and nurture vulnerable mindsets. 2. The beauty industry wants us to feel lousy about the way we look; they benefit when we believe weâre in need of a makeover or constant improvement. 4. The emphasis on thin ideals for women, and muscular physiques for men reflects fundamental power issues, reinforcing on a subtle level the notion that women should take up as little space as possible. 5. The media ideals weâre surrounded by are physically unattainable; theyâve been so significantly art directed and Photo-shopped that not even the models featured can achieve the degree of perfection represented. 6. Suffering is optional. We can choose not to buy into appearance myths; instead of doing battle with our own bodies, we can fight destructive media practices. 7. The less time we spend immersed in commercial media, the less exposure we have to messages designed to undermine us, and the less likely we are to consciously or unconsciously judge ourselves inadequate for failing to measure up to unattainable ideals. 8. We have the power to decline to consume products that in any way promote irresponsible attitudes and behavior, to encourage our friends and colleagues and communities to do the same. We can make media producers responsible for the toxic material they are disseminating through the power of complaint; we can communicate our decisions not to embrace media, products and services that do physical, psychological, emotional or environmental damage. 9. We can cultivate the assets that really count: focus on what we can do and how we can contribute, as opposed to how we appear. To start letting go of the power the media has over how you feel about yourself, Iâll leave you with five things you can do to take your power back and increase feelings of self-worth: 1. Stop buying fashion and beauty magazines and instead, buy reading material that makes you feel good instead. For instance, I buy spiritually enlightening and socially conscious magazines. 2. Find alternative media that celebrates women instead of demoralizes them. Some magazines I particularly like are BUST and Herizons. 3. Watch less television and Hollywood movies! These mediums of âentertainmentâ glorify a very narrow definition of female beauty and success and promote low self-worth to their viewers. Instead, find a relatively obscure foreign film or a low-budget documentary that focuses on who we are inside; not what we look like on the outside. 4. Make one day out of the week a âno make-up dayâ. Câmon- rebel a little against the fascist beauty ideal youâre expected to live up to. Bask in the delightfulness of a nude face! 5. Wear something that makes you feel beautiful, confident, and sexy; regardless of whether it follows current fashion dictates. Enjoy being a fully alive, healthy woman in whatever shape and size you happen to come in. And if all else fails, say this mantra that I learned at the conference over and over again: I AM MUCH MORE THAN WHAT YOU SEE. You can do this by telling them stories, facts, case histories and linking their problem to bad scenarios to persuade and influence them into believing your product is the solution to their problem. 2) Mesmerizing Stories - I already don't have to tell you that stories will obviously evoke emotion. Watch a tragedy, you'll feel sad. Watch a sci-fi movie and you'll probably feel excitement. Watch a horror flick and you'll more than likely feel scared. My advice to you is to weave stories into your sales letters that stir up hope in attaining a goal, avoiding trouble or achieving a dream. You can also craft stories detailing what happened to someone who never took action to solve the problem your product or service is intended to solve. This kind of story will produce fear of loss, which is usually a more powerful motive than desire to gain in most people. You can also use stories that have a human element to it. Simply tell a story about someone whom your readers can easily relate too, describing their problem and the frustrations that go with it in detail. And then, illustrate how this person used your product and solved their problem. Consequently making their life or business much better. This kind of story creates a type of "Social Proof." Meaning it cultivates a follow the leader response. 3) Use Emotional Words Instead Of Logical Words - It's no surprise that some words fire off stronger reactions than others. Words like abortion, pro-life, Soviet or dictator has an immediate effect. Other less controversial words such as mom, dad, family, home, friends, sister and brother have strong emotional impact. You need to evaluate your target market and find out what key words your market really reacts too. The key thing to remember is that just about every word has an emotional element to it. If your offer is greed oriented, then words and phrases like "money"; "get rich"; "six-figures"; and "make money easily" will excite your readers. Ideally you want to use many small, one syllable words that your prospects can relate an emotion to. Pick five or six key words that'll stir up the emotion you want in your reader and subtly plant them throughout the sales copy to spark an emotional reaction. Whether a sales letter thatâs performing terribly vexes you or you already have a sales letter that's getting decent results, you now realize what to do to help it sell more. You simply make it more emotionally-charged. As of right now, you know three shortcut ways to make your sales letters more emotional. They are: stir up pain; use mesmerizing stories; and weave emotional words into your copy.
